‘The Ultimate Fishing Giveaway’ Winner Announced
On May 1, 2021, Black Rifle Coffee Company announced “The Ultimate Fishing Giveaway.” The grand prize winner would be the recipient of more than $130,000 in prizes, including a Toyota Tundra truck, a fishing boat, apparel gift cards, a tackle box, gear, and more. Entries were accepted through August, and a winner was selected shortly after.
Becca Lutz, a game warden from Gillette, Wyoming, took home the grand prize. Black Rifle Coffee met Lutz at the Concord, North Carolina, Bass Pro Shop to hand off the boat before she hit the road back to Wyoming in her new Toyota Tundra, with her sweet boat and gear in tow.
If you haven't driven across the Great Plains before, Lutz recommended listening to "Fly Over States" by Jason Aldean. Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota are very boring states to drive through, Lutz said, but after listening to Mr. Aldean's song, you could appreciate the true American value of those "boring" states.

A Black Rifle Coffee customer since 2017, thanks to her mom, Lutz loves the subscription option and never runs out of coffee, she said. Lutz grew up in the suburbs of Indianapolis and was first introduced to boating through her grandparents’ sailboat on Lake Michigan. She attended Colorado State University, majoring in natural resources management and minoring in conservation biology. Her long-term goal was to be a game warden. While she was attending Colorado State, she volunteered at a raptor rehabilitation station. There, she learned about Wyoming hiring for game wardens. After two tries, she was accepted into the Wyoming State Law Enforcement Academy and commissioned in 2018.

The wardens in Wyoming are an extremely versatile unit; if something needs to get done, wardens are usually asked to help out. Every day is different for a warden. Some days are good and exciting, and other days really suck.
“I’m hoping to spend some time not working, so I can take the boat out fishing and maybe drag some of the other wardens out with me,” Lutz said. “Maybe I’ll do some bow fishing as well.”

Back home, Lutz hasn’t taken the boat out yet, mainly because winter can get “gnarly” around there. So she probably won't use the boat until spring. But more importantly, Wyoming is one of the few states left in the country without quagga or zebra mussels in its waterways. Wyoming takes aquatic invasive species very seriously, so Lutz will need the boat to stay dry over the winter and to have a full decontamination before she can use it in Wyoming's waters.

“It is unbelievable winning any sort of prize from BRCC. I would have been just as excited to win a phone call from Jamey and Paul, or just a T-shirt. I love all the content, coffee, apparel, stickers, etc., that BRCC creates, so to win anything is an honor,” Lutz said. “Honestly, it felt like a dream to fly out and get the boat and truck and to tell my family and friends, ‘I won this.’ But when I finally got home, into my own driveway, that's when it finally sunk in, that all of the stuff was mine, and I started crying. I don't know how to put the emotions of being a very blessed/lucky person into words. It’s honestly bananas.”
